HISTORY
In the early 1960’s a golfing society was formed with the Prince of Wales hotel in
Laindon as its headquarters.
When the Basildon and district Council decided to build
a golf course on some farmland where it still exists. The society held a meeting
in 1964 and I quote from the minutes.
Basildon district golfing society rules and
constitution 1964
1/ That the name of the of the society shall be the Basildon district
golfing society which shall be incorporated into a future golf club in Basildon all
members of the society who have paid their subscriptions before 31st December 1963
shall be offered membership.
The honorary president was Sir Richard Bonnallack CBE.
A
meeting of the Basildon sports Council was held in the Bullseye on 12th September
1966
1/The Chairman opened the meeting by briefly talking of the history of the Basildon
golf course .The Sports Council now thought that in view of all the controversy a
Basildon Golf Club should now be formed. The Basildon urban district Council welcomed
this suggestion and had come along to show their interest.
It was proposed "That the
Basildon Golf Club should now be formed to provide social and golfing activities
for its members and affiliated golf societies in the Basildon Urban District area.
An
inaugural meeting was held on 12th October 1966 and the following officers were elected.
President: the chairman of Basildon Urban District Council

Chairman: A Hembest
Captain: Harry Schwartz
Vice Captain Ted Preedy
Secretary:
Bill Povey
The subscriptions were fixed at one Guinea per annum
